How do I resolve the 'Could not load file or assembly CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.CommLayer'..

I'm working on an old WebForms app written many years ago by someone whose long since left. This is a Website application, not a Web Application. I think the original developer was working with either ASP.NET 1.x or maybe 2.0. So, I'm guessing all Visual Studio gave him was Website project.
Jun 04, 2014. System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'CrystalDecisions.Windows.Forms, Version=10.2.3600.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file.
Anyway, I'm working on my Windows 10 Enterprise laptop with VS 2017 Enterprise. I've been able to successfully replace several .DLL's that he carried around, with NuGet packages. All of these were CrystalDecisions types of NuGet packages. I can easily compile it and run it, until I try to generate a report (they're all Crystal reports). When I try to run one of the reports I get the following error message:
Here Mudassar Ahmed Khan has explained how to solve the following exception occurring with Crystal Reports in Windows Application. I went to the NuGet gallery and found a CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer package there, which I had hoped would resolve my issue, so I installed that package. It didn't resolve my problem. So, what should I do to get this working on my development laptop?
Dear Experts,
I am running crystal report viewer in SAP B1 2007A but one of my client machine will get the following error messages
when I try to run the CR application:

The client is not using any MS VS & CR in her machine. I also not so sure what is the main cause of this problem as I not so familiar with CR in SAP B1.
Kindly help me to resolve the error. thx.

Could Not Load File Or Assembly Crystal Decisions Crystal Reports Engine Dll
- Hi there,
I am going through the process of migrating an existing web solution from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010.
As part of that I have installed the recently released Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010.
One of our projects has a reference to 'CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine and everything seems fine within Visual Studio 2010, but when I try to run the solution I get the following error.
System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.dll' or one of its dependencies. is not a valid Win32 application. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800700C1)
I have set up the projects to target .net framework 4 and started by setting them to compile for 32 bit..
This is quite frustrating so any ideas would be very much appreciated.
Kind Regards
RobertHi Don,
Yes, it is set to the full framework.. I am running on a 64 bit Windows 7 machine.
One thing I have noticed is that if I try to load the crystal library through Depends (an application that shows the library dependancies), the different libraries that CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.dll depend on are listed as 64 bit (on my machine), yet 'CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.dll is a 32 bit library.. this is flagged as an error in depends.. In fact the first time I ran it it also couldn't find IESHIMS.DLL (because it is not in the PATH) by default. Anyway, there is no 64 bit CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.dll that I can see so I'm a bit confused. In fact I am a lot confused.
I have not as yet tried to building a fresh simple test solution with a crystal reference in it.
Thanks
Robert - I'm working with the sample application VB_Web_CRVObjMod_FilteringData which works fine locally using the ASP.net Website admin tool
After publishing to our server, it came up with the error..
'Could not load file or assembly 'CrystalDecisions.Web, Version=12.0.2000.0..'
where I installed 'CRRuntime_12_0_mlb.msi' on the server
Now when I attempt to open the default.aspx, I'm getting this error..
Could not load file or assembly 'CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.TemplateEngine, Version=12.0.1100.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
Should the CRRuntime_12_0_mlb.msi install all the necessary assemblies?
The actual path of the .dll's on the development pc is
C:Program FilesCommon FilesBusiness Objects3.0
while on the server it's
C:Program FilesCommon FilesBusiness Objects2.7

C:Program FilesBusiness Objects2008BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0win32_x86
The 2008 directory is my doing to prevent the 2008 install from overwriting the XI install. Was this a bad idea?
- Absolutely the worst idea I could think of. Crystal reports is side by side compliant since version 9. You do not need to, should not do any modifications at all. I have no idea what this has done to the system or even how this works as is..
On the development pc
Sort C:WINDOWSassembly by Version,
I can find CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Template Engine 12.0.1100.0
version 11.0.3300.0 also exists
On the server in C:windowsassembly
CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Template Engine is not found
Other CrystalDecisions.. assemblies version 12.0.1100.0 are present
In the original post you mention that you are using .NET 2005. Yet, you only see CR assemblies of version 12.0.1100. These assemblies can not be used in .NET 2005. The really confusing part is that the error is telling me the app is looking for assemblies of version 12.0.2000.
Look in the .NET project for the CR assemblies. What version of the assemblies are you referencing?

Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help. - Hello everyone!.
I am having a really annoying problem, in my code when I try to set de data source to the report the following error appears:
Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:Program Files (x86)SAP BusinessObjectsCrystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0CommonSAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0win32_x86dotnet1crdb_adoplus.dll' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
I am running .NET Framework 4 running in VS2012 to X86 and I have installed the CRforVS_13_0_8, although just in case I installed all the version from the CRforVS_13_0_5 to the CRforVS_13_0_8.
Also I have found in many sites that adding the following lines to the app.config seems to fix the problem, but in my case doesn't work:
<startup useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy='true'>
<supportedRuntime version='v4.0' sku='.NETFramework,Version=v4.0'/>
</startup>
Part of my code is this, just in case:
using (ReportDocument report = new ReportDocument())
try
// carga el reporte desde su ubicación configurada
report.Load(pathReporte);
report.SetDataSource(data);
and the dlls I have referenced are this ones:
CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine
CrystalDecisions.ReportSource
CrystalDecisions.Shared
Thanks very much for your help in advance.Hi Javier
Two things to do:
1) Read this blog re. troubleshooting issues with CR and datasets (the error is different, but try anyhow)
2) Use Process Monitor and see what is happening when your process is attempting to load the crdb_adoplus.dll

KrisHi Vittorio
Please enter the search string 'log4net crystal net' into the search box in the top right corner. When the results come up, click on the Support Notes link. That will filter for the KBAs that you want to have a look at.

Follow us on Twitter - Hi,
I have a web site developed with vs 2010 (32-bit) and crystal report 13 (for sv 2010). It's working well i when crystal report installed in gac. I need to this app on a server WITHOUT crystal report installed. so I copied all required crystal assemblies into the bin folder and publish it. I always get following error message
Could not load file or assembly 'log4net, Version=1.2.10.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)
I tried a lot of solutions in this forum, but none of them resolved my issue.
Please help!!

I have not tried deploying this to staging since the issue started as I'm a bit nervous of touching the staging/live environment until this is solved.
Removing the PlatformTarget element from the project file has no effect
Removing the msshrtmi.dll file from the bin directory of the website project ends up with
'Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.WindowsFabric.Common, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified'
I have used Git to revert to the last working build to no effect (But I don't have the obj/bin folders in GIT), but it has atleast reset the project files etc.
If I return msshrtmi.dll to the bin folder and switch the model and website projects to x64 there is no change
If I switch both to x86 then I get an error Could not load file or assembly 'BekoModel2011' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.
which is the model project - presumably because to run on my x64 machine I need the 64bit version?
I really need to be able to debug and then publish some changes ASAP.
AndrewHi,
Is it true that you're using IIS to host the application? Could you check whether the process is x64 or x86 one via task manager or config in IIS manager?

When I look in the event log I see it every time anyone tries to sync to a mobile device to the exchange server. I've also had this problem trying to connect using
Outlook. I believe it is an IIS issue but I'm not absolutely sure so I'm posting this in the Exchange forum as well.
The event viewer has the following information..

I have tried most, if not all, of the different post's suggestions to no avail.
The steps I have taken are as follows..
1. Repaired .Net 4 (Both the client and extended)
2. Uninstalled and reinstalled .Net Framework 4.0.
3. Verified that the dll exists.
4. Checked the applicationHost.config file. It contains the follow statement..
<add name='ServiceModel-4.0' type='System.ServiceModel.Activation.ServiceHttpModule, System.ServiceModel.Activation, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' preCondition='managedHandler,runtimeVersionv2.0'
/>
5. Changed the following line in web.config to include the runtimeVersion..
<add name='ServiceModel' type='System.ServiceModel.Activation.HttpModule, System.ServiceModel.Activation, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' preCondition='managedHandler,runtimeVersionv2.0' />
6. Executed aspnet_regiis.exe -iru from the ..Framework64v4.0.30319 directory.
7. Went to inetpubhistory to use an applicationHost.config file from yesterday but it only has history from 9PM tonight. It probably had what I needed before I started changing it tonight.
I still receive the same error message.
Like I said everything was working yesterday. In fact I didn't hear or see any issue until after 1PM today.
Any help would be very appreciated!Hi,
Please confirm whether users can access their mailboxes from Outlook Web Access or not. We can do the following changes to have a try:
1. In IIS > Application Pools, change the .NET Framework Version to v2.0 and restart IIS service.
2. If it doesn’t work, explore the Default Web site.
3. Renamed the web.config file to web.config.old
4. Reset IIS using iisreset command to have a try.
Thanks,
Winnie Liang

Anyone know how to solve this? Thanks in advanceSorry for late response. I fixed the issue by installing the correct version of ASP .NET 4 from
here.
If .NET Framework 4.5 is already installed, also run aspnet_regiis -i from C:windowsmicrosoft.netFrameworkv4.0.30319 - Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ReportingServices.SharePoint.ObjectModel' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)
This is a SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition of SSRS.
I am getting this error when navigating to http://servername/Reports. The reports site was working fine, until I installed a SQL 2014 Developer instance (including SSRS) on the same server.
I can still get to the http://servername/ReportServer site.
Neither of these are using Sharepoint.
Any help resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

'The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference.' is generally caused by the loaded assembly's version is different than the expected version application refers to.
In this case, it should be caused by:
While starting Report Manager, the backend process ReportingServiceService need to load assemblies it refers to
ReportingServiceService reads the compilation/assemblies element from web.config(under Report Manager virtual patch)
If the compilation/assemblies is not existing, ReportingServiceService loads all assemblies from Bin folder. It can be verified from call stack System.Web.Configuration.CompilationSection.LoadAllAssembliesFromAppDomainBinDirectory(). ReportingServiceService
uses System.Reflection.Assembly.Load with the assemblies' name only to load assemblies.
The Assembly.Load tries to load from the specify assembly by name from GAC at first. If it is found from GAC, it won't be loaded from Bin folder any more.
Since Reporting Service SharePoint Integration mode is installed, a same assembly of 'Microsoft.ReportingServices.SharePoint.ObjectModel' with different version might be installed to the GAC. That causes the error 'The located assembly's manifest definition
does not match the assembly reference.'
For more information about the error message and the loading process, please see:

Thanks,
Jinchun Chen - I have been building a.NET application on my local Machine Windows 7 and have the 32-bit ODT installed on my machine which works nicely with VS 2010.
I placed it on the server and when I open the page that accesses data from Oracle, I get the below error. Both the server and my local computer have the Oracle.DataAccess
dll installed and both have the same public token 89b483f429c47342. I changed the target CPU from Any CPU to x86 and published a Release build of my project to the server.
Why am I getting the below error?

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:4.0.30319; ASP.NET Version:4.0.30319.1This was definitely the right answer, I thought ODAC was already installed on the server, but apparently not. I installed the 64-bit OCAC XCopy version on the server and now it works. - I just got a new workstation set up and I installed VS 2013 with Windows Azure SDK 2.3 first. But then I realized that our project was built upon Windows Azure SDK 2.2. So I uninstalled the SDK 2.3 and then installed 2.2. After that, I got the project from
TFS and tried to run it and there was a problem:
Cannot debug the project because some run time file was missing.
So I tried to repair it by uninstalling Windows Azure SDK 2.2 completely and repair my VisualStudio. But now I get this error message:
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ServiceHosting.Tools, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture =neutral, PublicKeyToken=232wedsfd3f4' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
I looked through the project and there wasn't any reference of Miscrosoft.ServiceHosting. And the database and cloud are working. No idea what happened in the machine since Azure is a new field for me. Does anybody ever meet the same problem?Hi,
From my experience, there may be some component missing on your computer, I suggest you uninstall again (everything with Azure keyword in control panel, not only the SDK-> Add remove programs.'), then open Microsoft web platform installer (http://www.microsoft.com/web/downloads/platform.aspx),
select azure sdk 2.3, then install this product. Hope this helps, if not, please feel free to let me know.
